OUR BEGINNINGS

Our band Gibran Khalil Gibran was born in Córdoba during the year 1986, as a follow up to the great arabic ballet with the same name. Two of the members of that ballet (Félix Abdala Warde and Juan M. Manzur) decided to complement the dances with live music, which lead to, after buying their first musical instruments, to join to the experienced musician Daniel Pecker, which along with the lebanese singer Fady Chaer, begun the path of oriental music.

Soon after, the young lebanese musician Elías Bitar joined the group, starting as durbakeer and singer.

Then, during 1989, Juan Manzur established in L.A., California and Fady Chaer went to Lebanon, which made Elías Bitar to step forward to replace their fellow members in the band, after perfecting his durbake technique in Lebanon.


At the same period, Daniel Ampuero entered G.K.G. At first he played violin, and then, following the needs of the badm continued as percusionist with Mazhar and other instruments.

Due to his work obligations as a dentist, Elías Bitar was forced to stay in Santiago del Estero and leave the group, but he still is in touch and is a guest musician in many of our events. To fill his void, Fadi Ghadban (durbakeer) and George Kasih, (singer from Syria) joined GKG.

The agroupation started to work independently from the Ballet, and incorporated the "Belly Dancer " to his show.

With the arrival of "Samia the Princess ", the band started to develop one of the best shows of arabic dance and music in the entire country.

In this way, GKG begun its tours in the entire country, and neighbouring countries as well. Among some milestones in the band tours, we can mention Punta del Este (98,99,2000,2001,2002,2003 & 2004). During August 1999, playing in the best spots in Río de Janeiro, Brasil.

During the entire year 2000, the group was the main attraction Wed-Sat in "Bs.As. News", the hippest disco-club in the country.

During August 2004 an international tour took the band to Sao Paulo - Brasil and Lima - Perú.

Currently, Gibran Khalil Gibran is performing in the Greek and Oriental Canteen "Mikonos", Cordoba, as well as shows around the entire country (please check SHOW SCHEDULE ).
